ELECTRONIC FILING
What are some of the benefits of filing my taxes
electronically?
The main advantages of filing your returns electronically
are: 1) quicker refunds, 2) increased accuracy and
3) IRS acknowledgment of receipt of the return.
An electronic filer generally receives a refund in
half the time it takes with a paper return—even faster
if the filer elects to receive his or her return via
direct deposit.
Electronic filings provide more accuracy because senders
are alerted within days to any errors so that such errors
may be corrected immediately.
The IRS also creates an acknowledgment file for each
electronic return, which it can transmit back to the
return's sender within two working days after the original
transmission. This acknowledgement provides some protection
should IRS later claim that it never received a return.
Electronic filers have several options relating how
they receive their returns. Such filers may apply their
refunds to their estimated tax liability, receive the
proceeds by check, have the proceeds directly deposited
to a bank account, or use some combination of these
options. Electronic filers who require immediate access
to funds may also borrow money based on an anticipated
tax refund using a “refund anticipation loan” (RAL).
The RAL is a contract between the taxpayer and a third
party lender. The IRS is not a party to a RAL.
As an authorized IRS E-file provider, our office can
file your return electronically. Pursuant to IRS rules,
our fee is not based on the amount of your refund.
